As you’ve gathered from reading this site, Matt and I are foodies. I got a chance to buy fresh local products straight from the growers this past week during my vacation in Oregon. I bought fresh walnuts and hazelnuts from orchards around McMinnville, four varieties of cheese from the Willamette Valley Creamery, aged vintage white Cheddar from the Tillamook co-op, a special beer-based mustard from the McMenamin brothers, wine from regional vineyards, and the most incredibly sweet and rich seafood from several local restaurants up and down the Oregon Coast (oysters, scallops, shrimp, prawns, crab, clams, halibut and sole–truly heaven on earth).
I must say that you’ve never had seafood until you’ve had fresh razor clams caught that day (I tried to dig for one myself on Cannon Beach and failed; the little bastard got away from me), breaded in Japanese panko bread crumbs and deep fried until a buttery golden brown.
